CONSUMER ALERTUNITED STATES FOOD AND DRUG ADMINISTRATION SHUTS DOWN PEANUT BORDER PRODUCER DUE TO SALMONELLA POISONING OUTBREAK

For the first time ever, the FDA used what is known as its registration suspension authority to prohibit a company from distributing food. The company is Sunland, Inc. and the reason is that peanut butter made by the company has been linked to an outbreak of salmonella poisoning that has sickened 41 people in 20 states. This new law enables the FDA to take this action, when food manufactured by a facility has a reasonable probability of causing serious adverse called consequences or death to humans or animals, and other conditions are met.

Hundreds of products or being recalled and it is important that you know that this company
is involved in the production of peanut butter products for many companies, including companies that do business in this area like Trader Joe’s and Harry and David.
